Siegel-Gallagher Turns Around Racine’s Reefpoint Marina
MILWAUKEE (Nov. 25, 2013) — A South Shore jewel that attracts Chicagoland boaters with high expectations, Racine’s Reefpoint Marina floundered under poor management 2012. Racine County tried to rescue it early in 2013, but realized it was not equipped to overcome the financial and service woes the previous management firm left behind.
Then in May 2013 the county hired SG Marina, a division of Siegel-Gallagher, one of the Midwest’s most respected property management firms, to restore the marina’s glory. By season’s end, Siegel-Gallagher had not only earned a five-year contract to manage Reefpoint Marina, but was negotiating a five-year assignment with another Lake Michigan marina.
The unlikely relationship began with a Reefpoint customer, John Matheson CMP, Executive Vice President and Principal at Siegel-Gallagher. He had docked his sailboat at the 921-slip marina for 10 years, giving him a close-up view of the overflowing trash and poor service resulting from Racine County selecting the low bidder for management in 2012.
Matheson approached Racine County and suggested that SGMC could help. The firm took over management of Reefpoint Marina on May 16 and installed Carrie Neubecker as general manager. More new staff members helped Neubecker instill a culture SGMC applies to managing high-end condominiums and office buildings throughout the Midwest — “manage like we own it.”
Memorable service to an exacting clientele, attention to detail and strong communication with Racine County defined the turnaround. During SGMC’s management of Reefpoint Marina in 2013, the marina opened Reefpoint Brewhouse, updated the marina’s restrooms, worked with the county to address algae problems in the water and hosted a wine tasting and movie night to promote Reefpoint’s status as a Wisconsin Clean Marina.
