SG Marina Continues to Expand
The start of 2016 proved to be a very exciting time for SG Marina. During Q1 of 2016, SG Marina added three new marinas in Waukegan, Ill.; Egg Harbor, Wis.; and Rochester, NY. In addition to adding slip inventory to the SG Marina portfolio, this expansion has more importantly provided a foothold in the regional marina landscape. Our new partnerships added more than 800 new slips to the ever-growing marina portfolio, spurred by more than two years of relationship building with the municipalities Siegel-Gallagher now represents.
The Waukegan marina serves as Siegel-Gallagher’s largest 2016 acquisition at more than (678) slips, serving both recreational boaters and commercial shipping operations. The success and traffic of this marina, since takeover, served as a catalyst to consideration of a new Waukegan harbor master plan redevelopment. Lastly, the Port of Rochester currently offers (54) slips. Although this is Siegel-Gallagher’s smallest acquisition of the year, SG Marina is particularly excited about this assignment. The Port of Rochester is a newly construction state-of-the-art facility located on Lake Ontario and serves as a key component to the master plan redevelopment of the City of Rochester lakefront.
With continued growth of the Marina division, training is a priority. In March 2016, all marina managers met for the first of three divisional meetings for the year. Each meeting will discuss the importance of expanding internal and external education. Internal training is a learning based approach for groups, mentors, and peers. External training will emphasize formal designations such as the Certified Marina Manager (CMM), which was recently received by Tom Lawson, Marina Manager, Titusville Marina.
